How do I fine-tune acceleration?

Several factors influence an electric skateboard’s acceleration, such as rider weight, wheel resistance, and terrain. Depending on those factors and your personal preferences, you may want to fine-tune your board’s acceleration performance.

The two primary settings that affect acceleration are _ MODE CUR (current or power) and _ SPEEDUP LINE (acceleration curve). In this article they will be referred to as Current and Curve. Instructions for accessing these settings are in the user manual.

Current

The Current setting determines the maximum power output of the board in each respective mode (S MODE CUR for S Mode, etc.). Raising this value increases acceleration and improves performance in power-demanding situations, such as climbing inclines.

  • Too high: The board may lurch forward aggressively when throttling up.
  • Too low: The board may struggle to climb hills or feel sluggish.

Aero Pro Tip

For everyday riding on the Aero Pro, a Current value of 40–60% should provide sufficient power for most riders.

Curve

Unlike Current, the Curve setting does not affect total power output but how that power is mapped to the throttle. Raising this value makes the acceleration feel snappier. Lowering it makes the acceleration feel smoother.

  • Too high: Acceleration may feel jerky when accelerating from a standstill.
  • Too low: Acceleration may feel sluggish or unresponsive.

Tuning

To achieve the best acceleration feel, adjust these settings as follows:

  1. Set the Current just high enough to provide sufficient power for climbing inclines. Or, set it so that acceleration feels strong but manageable at half to full throttle on level ground.
  2. Set the Curve so that acceleration from a standstill feels smooth, neither jerky nor laggy.

Tips

  • Heavier riders typically require higher values for both Current and Curve. Lighter riders generally need lower values.
  • Wheels with higher rolling resistance may require higher settings.

Example

For casual rides on the Aero Pro with stock Parsec 80s wheels, Daniel (165 lb) uses these values for E Mode:

  • E MODE CUR: 45%
  • E SPEEDUP LINE: 10%

The low value for the Curve (E SPEEDUP LINE) allows for smooth transition between pushing and throttle use. It’s also beneficial when riding with a shorter stance (feet closer together).

Adjust your settings based on your weight, riding style, and terrain to find what works best for you.
