Why We Need Lightweight Electric Skateboards

Portability is the defining advantage of skateboards—electric or otherwise. No other personal vehicle allows you to seamlessly dismount, carry it under one arm, and move through buildings, public transit, or up flights of stairs with such ease.

But as electric skateboards grow larger and heavier, this core advantage diminishes. Many modern e-boards have become so bulky and cumbersome that they’re no more portable than e-scooters or even e-bikes.

Rampant Weight Gain

In 2017, back when electric skateboarding surged in popularity, the most popular boards weighed around 16 to 18 pounds (7 to 8 kilograms). Today, flagship street boards from the leading brands weigh 20 to 25 pounds (9 to 11.5 kilograms), with all-terrain models generally exceeding 35 pounds (16 kilograms).

Finding a place to store or park a large electric skateboard isn’t easy. Unlike e-scooters or e-bikes, they’re rarely left outside because they’re easier to steal. Bringing them indoors, especially into workplaces or crowded spaces, can be awkward and intrusive.

Lightweight electric skateboards, in contrast, are much easier to carry and store discreetly. While they trade off some terrain versatility, the truth is that most other types of PEVs handle varied terrain better than even “all-terrain” e-boards.

Lightweight Revolution

With the Aero Pro, we aim to reverse this trend of ever-growing e-boards.

At just 15.5 pounds (7 kilograms), the Aero Pro is the lightest e-board to be constructed using premium materials like T800 carbon fiber and 7075-T6 aluminum.

It is the only production commuter e-board of any weight with a battery pack made up of industry-leading Molicel P45B cells.

Paired with its powerful 50A peak ESC, no other board in this weight class delivers comparable power to the wheels, allowing even the heaviest of riders to charge up the steepest hills.

The Aero Pro proves that advancements in power, range, and durability aren’t exclusive to heavier boards. Lightweight electric skateboards don’t have to be underpowered toys—they can be serious, capable machines.

We hope this marks the beginning of a lightweight revolution, bringing electric skateboards back to their roots: agile, portable, and uniquely suited for modern urban travel.
